Mrs. King was born in Copiah County, MS on May 10, 1929. She grew up in Copiah and Lawrence counties. She was a graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, MS. Mrs. King lived her adult life in Mississippi, Texas, Patterson, Houma Louisiana and for the past 30 years in Mendenhall, as well as several years in The Netherlands and Yemen. Mrs. King held several positions in kindergarten and pre-kindergarten education. She loved children and education and served for over 20 years in that area. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mendenhall for over 30 years and served as the Director of Child Care and volunteered in a number of areas including the Food Benevolence Committee. She was a member of the Friends of the Library and Eastern Star.
She possessed a loving and nurturing spirit that transcended through her family, her work with children and her love of gardening. She was strong, steady, confident in her beliefs and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Mrs. King is predeceased by her husband, James Ray King, her parents; Burley and Laura Mae Farrar Lambert, her brother; Elbert S. Lambert and her sisters; Arleta Lambert Reid, Farrah Lambert Crawford, Bobbie Lambert Gibson and Helen Lambert Langford.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Lewis Mackenzie, Orlando FL, step-daughters; Connie King Whitney (Howard), Lawrenceville, GA, Cindy King Williams (Randy), Stringer, MS and Claire King McDonald (Darren), Minden, LA, grandsons; James Howard Whitney, Eric Mertens, granddaughters; Alicia Whitney McWilliams, Carmen Mertens, Lauren McDonald Richardson and Rachel McDonald, twelve loving great grandchildren, her sister, Betty Lambert Cox, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 15, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Tutor Funeral Home in Mendenhall. Services will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church in Mendenhall, MS. Interment will follow at Mendenhall City Cemetery.
