JAS. IRVIN LANKFORD BURIED HERE TODAY
James Irvin Lankford, 49, husband of Mrs. Margaret Baxter Lankford of 33 Bay Drive, Linier, Virginia Beach, was buried today at one p.m. in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
Funeral services had been held at the Cox Funeral Home, Norfolk , at 11 a.m. by the Rev. P. Rowland Wagner, retired pastor of Central Baptist Church, Norfolk.
Services at the grave were conducted by the Rev. Ira Hudgins, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church and the Rev. Thomas Downing, pastor of Sycamore Baptist Church, of which he was a member. Ruth Lodge, A.F. & A.M. conducted rites.
Mr. Lankford, son of Samuel Winfield Lankford and the late Mrs. Clara Cotton Lankford, was a native of Southampton. He had resided in the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area for 30 years.
He died suddenly Friday afternoon at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C., after suffering a stroke the day before.
He was assistant general agent for the Lincoln National Life Insurance, Co. in Norfolk. He was a member of the Sycamore Baptist church, Franklin, the Virginia Beach Lions Club, the Norfolk Sports Club, Ruth Lodge, A.F. & A.M.; the Scottish Rites Bodies, Khedive Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S., the Virginia Beach-Princess Anne Shrine Club and the Norfolk Life Underwriters; Assn.
Besides his wife and father, surviving are two sons, James Irvin Lankford, Jr., of Aruba, Nethelands Antilles, and Carl Baxter Lankford of Virginia Beach; one daughter, Margaret Eggleston Lankford, also of Virginia Beach; one grandson, James Irvin Lankford, III, also of Aruba; four sisters, Mrs. H.A. Walker, Mrs. W.H. Thompson and Mrs. S.W. Woods, all of Norfolk, and Mrs. B.P. Bland of Richmond; five brothers, Samuel W. Lankford, Jr., of Norfolk; Royce B. Lankford of Nashville, N.C.; Hudson O. Lankford, William E. Lankford and Aubrey Lankford, all of Franklin; 14 nieces and nephews.
