Col. Arthur E. Wilbourn, a retired Army cavalry officer, died Friday night at Annapolis after a long illness. Born Feb. 9, 1884 in Lexington, Va.

Wilbourn was graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1904 and from the U.S. Military Academy in 1908. He served with the 9th U.S. Cavalry in the Philippines and participated in the pursuit of Pancho Villa along the Mexican border in 1914-15. Wilbourn was a distinguished horseman and helped train Army equestrian teams. He also directed the training of pilots and mechanics at several Army bases.

From 1930 to 1933, he supervised the reconstruction of Civil War battlefields near Fredericksburg, Va. He later commanded the 12th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Brown, Tex.

Wilbourn was married to the late Elizabeth Dallam Cobb of Boston. He is survived by a son Robert Wilbourn, of 539 E St., SE; three daughters, Mrs. Carolyn W. Clark, wife of Lt. Gen. A. P. Clark, vice commander of the Tactical Air Command at Langley Field, Va., Mrs. Anne W. Goss, wife of Maj. David L. Goss, Lockbourne Air Force Base, Columbus, Ohio, and Mrs. Elizabeth W. Knight, San Antonio, Tex., nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A family service was scheduled for today at the Chambers Funeral Home. Burial will be at West Point, N.Y.
