Michael Gabbard was born probably in 1794, in Virginia, to Henry and Barbara (Hunseker) Gabbard. He died in 1869 in Puncheon Creek, Breathitt County, Kentucky.
He married Mary Margaret "Polly" Peters, daughter of John and Catherine (Lane) Peters, in 1814 in Virginia, before moving on to Kentucky.
By 1830 they were living in Clay County, Kentucky as were Michael's father and other family members. Michael and Polly were listed on the 1830 Clay County Census with 8 unnamed children; 4 sons and 4 daughters, all under the age of 19.
Between 1830 and 1850 they relocated to Breathitt County, where they remained for the rest of their lives.
