Mr. Schafer was a paratrooper for the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict era; he was honorably discharged March 9, 1956.
He was an industrial engineer at Cummins Engine Company retiring after many years of service. After retirement, Mr. Schafer was a consultant for Cummins.
He was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. He was an avid reader and enjoyed woodworking.
Born in Indianapolis August 24, 1935, Mr. Schafer was the son of William J. and Helen Roth Schafer. He married Connie H. Pruitt January 26, 1957 in Columbus.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years; children, Chuck Schafer of Cincinnati, Tom (Sandy) Schafer of North Kingstown, RI, Dan Schafer of Savannah, GA, and Nancy Moore of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren; a sister, Mary (Terry) Klinger of Ft. Wayne; brothers, Bill (Ruth) Schafer of St. Louis, MO and Larry (Ellen) Schafer of Carmel; a sister-in-law, Judy Schafer of Clearwater, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Schafer was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim Schafer.
