David D. Stratton, Sr., 72, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, July 16, 2005. He was the husband of the late Betty Jane (Ronca) Stratton. Celebration of life service Wednesday at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Home, Red Lion. Burial in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born May 9, 1933, in Decatur, Ill., he was a son of the late Clyde T. and Ethel A. (Pipe) Stratton. He graduated with honors from Bradley University in Peoria, IL, with a mechanical engineering degree. He also played on the school baseball team, from whom he received a full athletic scholarship. He retired as a salesman from Bethlehem Steel Corp. in 1997, after 42 years of service. Mr. Stratton was a licensed commercial pilot and loved spending time at the beach in Cape May, NJ with his children, granddaughter, and friends. He was honorably discharged from the US Air Force in 1971, attaining the rank of Captain. Mr. Stratton is survived by a daughter, Julie A. Stratton of York; a son, David D. Stratton, Jr., and wife, Janice Stratton of Lancaster; and a granddaughter, Megan K. Stratton of Lancaster. [York Daily Record]
