SHADY VALLEY, Tenn. – Ben M. Lewis, age 72, of 1805 Highway 133, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at his residence with his wife of 53 years by his side.
Ben was born on March 14, 1936, in Shady Valley, to the late James Jeff and Ruth Sally Blevins Lewis. He was a former employee of Raytheon and Bill Gatton Chevrolet. Ben also had worked in the orchards of Shady Valley. He was a member of Shady Valley Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by four brothers, Phil, Dewey "Joe," James T. "June" and Byron Lewis.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia "Lyda" Lewis of the home; two daughters, Clarice Crowder and husband Randy of Laurel Bloomery, Tenn., and Carolyn Lewis of Shady Valley; two sons, Conrad Lewis and Calvin Lewis, both of Shady Valley; three sisters, Margie Shumaker of Bristol Virginia, Barbara Hutchinson of Shady Valley and Delma Lewis of Damascus, Va.; one brother, Bob Lewis of Shady Valley; three grandchildren, Cayla Lewis, Christine Carter and husband Ronald, all of Shady Valley, and Leslie Saults and husband Greg of Johnson City, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren, Roshanna Carter and Randy Carter, both of Shady Valley, and Colton Saults of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Kimra Campbell.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, from noon until 1:30 p.m. from the Shady Valley Church of Christ. The funeral service will be conducted at the graveside at 2 p.m. from the Blevins Cemetery, Shady Valley, with Jim Sherman, minister, officiating.
Active pallbearers will be nephews, Russell Robinson, Lynn Robinson, Julian Robinson, Johnny Hutchinson, Terry Hutchinson, Tommy Hutchinson, Jeff Lewis, Stuart Hutchinson and Kenneth McQueen. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Hutchinson, Dr. Justin Digby, Dr. Vivian Clark, Dr. Renee P. Mason and members of Shady Valley Church of Christ.
The family will also receive friends at the residence, 1805 Highway 133, Shady Valley, TN 37688.
