DEATH: The inventory of his estate refers to him as "George Weekes of Dorchester who departed this life the 2d of December 1650", and the inventory was dated 22nd day 11 mo 1650 (22 Jan 1651). It was his GRANDSON George who died 27 Oct 1659.
Several web sources indicate he arrived on the same ship as Rev. Richard Mather in 1635. However, he was still in England in 1636 and not admitted to the church in Massachusetts until 1639. Also, he is not covered in any volume of the Great Migration series which covers all immigrants through 1635. He was admitted as a Freeman at Dorchester on May 13,1640.
George Weeks was probably from a junior branch of the family of Roger Wykes of Bindon Axmouth, an ancient and honorable Devonshire family whose original name was "Wrey" and whose seat, in the latter part of the 14th century, was at North Wyke, in Tawton Hundred, about 20 miles from Exeter.
His home in England was at Salcombe Regis and he was still there in 1636 shown by his signing a will his brother-in-law William Clapp Jr. This was in Devon, 16 miles southeast from Exeter.
He married Jane Clapp about 1625 in England.
Children: William Weeks, Ammiel Weeks, Jane Weeks Bates Paine, and Joseph Weeks.
