William was the son of Samuel Wade McAtlee & Martha Mathilda Backhaus. He was raised by Fredest Carl "Fred" Bollman & Minnie Hagen.

William married Lillian Lenore "Lenore" McGonigle on 15 Aug 1935 at Walnut, Bureau Co., IL. After his death, Lenore married Richard L. DeWaele on 26 May 1957 at Walnut, Bureau Co., IL.

William died in a train incident in what was then Karedelkevo, Yugoslavia. It is now Ploče, Croatia. He was buried in a cemetery in what was then Rogotin, Dalmatia, Yugoslavia (now Croatia).

Receives Additional Information of Husband's Death in Yugoslavia

WALNUT - Additional information concerning death of her husband in Yugoslavia was received by Mrs. William Bollman, Walnut, Tuesday.

Mrs. Bollman received the following telegraph from the Tramer Shipping company, N.Y., her husband's employer:
"William Bollman returning from shore leave at 8 p.m. Feb. 11, struck by train one mile from vessel, instantly killed Buried Feb. 12 in local cemetery at Christian ceremony, all donated by local people. Embassy representative secured full details. Inquest and death certificate in my possession. Signed, Master of Ship, J. P. Kounse."

Mrs. Bollman last week received word her husband had been killed by a train at Kardelkevo, Yugoslavia, but until Tuesday had received no additional information. The ship on which Mr. Bollman sailed is expected to dock March 9.

Mr. Bollman was born Dec. 12 1912, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Wade McAttee in Bowbells, N.D. Upon their death when he was still a child, he was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bollman of New Bedford.

He attended New Bedford grade school and graduated in 1931 from Manlius high school. He married Miss Leonore McGonigle Aug. 18, 1935 in Walnut.

He was a member of the New Bedford Christian church.

Mr. Bollman joined the merchant marine in September of 1934, after having farmed in the New Bedford area for some time. After receiving his discharge in December of 1945, he lived in Walnut, where he was a painting contractor.

He rejoined the merchant marine in December of 1950 and was killed during his second voyage.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Minnie Bollman, New Bedford; a sister, Mrs. Carl Nelson, New Bedford; and aunt, Mrs. Mabel Simplins, Princess Ann, Md.
