Isaac K. Williams, one of the oldest and at the same time, most respected citizens of this village, died at his house here on Wednesday morning. He was nearly eighty-five years of age, and until the 31st of December last was in good health and able to attend to his duties daily at the Journal office. Since then he has slowly failed, and passed away very unexpectedly at 9:45 o'clock Wednesday morning. He was a son of the Hon. Isaac Williams of this village and one of a family of thirteen, the only survivor being a sister, Mrs. Chester Hooper of Union, N.Y. A wife [Fannie] and one daughter [Mary] also survive him.
Of him the Journal says: Mr. Williams was at one time one of the editors and proprietors of the Otsego Republican, which he left in 1842, and for about 45 years he was employed in the Journal office—ever faithful in the discharge of his duties. He was a man of more than ordinary intelligence and general information. In politics he was first a Whig and then a Republican, a firm believer in the doctrines and principles of those parties. He was a Universalist in his religious belief, and a faithful and liberal member of that church in Cooperstown. As a citizen he commanded the confidence and respect of all who knew him. As a relative, friend and neighbor he will be held in rememberance [sic] for his good social qualities, a hospitality that was beyond his means, and his sterling integrity as a man.
The funeral will take place at the house, at 3 o'clock P.M. on Friday.
