Elizabeth Lance (Lantz) married David Dobson on September 26, 1839 and they had 2 sons, William Dobson and Abraham Dobson.

After she became a widow, Elizabeth Dobson married her neighbor Jacob Miller (a widower) on April 28, 1846. Elizabeth, David Dobson, Jacob Miller and his wife, Sarah Waltz, had all been members of the same church, a United Brethren Church. David Dobson and Jacob Miller helped to establish the church, which was located next to the cemetery, where they are all buried. (A brother of Sarah Waltz, George R. Waltz, donated the land for the church and cemetery.)

Jacob Miller's first wife, Sarah nee Waltz, had died in 1842, leaving behind her husband and her seven children to mourn her passing. [Jacob Miller and some of his older children had been born in Virginia.])

Elizabeth helped to raise Jacob's children by Sarah, along her own two sons by David Dobson and also the four children that she later had with Jacob Miller: James F., Almeda (m. Orval Nichols), Ella E., Estella (m. Walter Bowman).

Her husband, Jacob Miller, preceded Elizabeth in death in May 1889, at the age of 85. She died ten years later, at the age of 78.
