John D. Foster of Salome died March 28 at Wickenburg Community Hospital. He was 80.

Mr. Foster was born January 7, 1914 in New Castle, Indiana and had lived in Arizona for 51 years.

He was an honorably discharged Marine corporal who had served in action against the enemy at Iwo Jima, Volcano Island from February 19, 1945 to March 14, 1945 and had participated in the seizure and occupation of Tinian, Marianas Islands from July 24, 1944 to August 1, 1944.

He was a member of the Salome VFW and belonged to the Local Teamsters Union No. 104 in Phoenix.

Mr.Foster is survived by a son John C. Foster of Phoenix; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Kristi and Rob Nordby of Prescott and Mendi and Patrick Harnish of Phoenix; granddaughter Jenelle Foster of Phoenix; great-grandchildren, Stevie and Mathew Nordby of Prescott and Patrick Jr., Nathanial and Cody Harnish – all of Phoenix. He was preceded in death by his wife Martha in 1985.

Services have been held. Pastor Al Beach officiated and interment was at the Wickenburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2929 E. Thomas, Phoenix, AZ 85016.
