Mary Jane "Nona" Cherry, 82 of Frontenac, died at 1:35am, Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg following a brief illness.
She was born March 19, 1931 in Frontenac the daughter of Barney and Argentina (Biancarelli) Balma.
On April 30, 1948 she was united in marriage to Clifford E. Cherry in Pittsburg. The couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past April.
Mary was a lifetime resident of Frontenac and the owner/operator of Argentina's restaurant and Nona's Ristorante. She was also the owner/operator of Mother Goose Daycare in Pittsburg for over 20 years.
Survivors include her husband Clifford of the home, two daughters: Pam Shetley and Penne Cherry both of Frontenac; three sons: Steve and Randy Cherry both of Frontenac and Troy Cherry of Belton, MO; a sister Karolyn Cleveland of Carl Junction, MO; along with 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Pete and Leo Gammaitoni.
Graveside services will be 10 am, Thursday at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, where friends are requested to meet at the cemetery for the services. The family will receive friends at the Friskel Funeral Home for visitation from 7-8 pm Wednesday evening. Condolences may be left at www.friskelfuneralhome.com. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Research Fund; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
