Marriage Rites In Eagle Pass of Interest
Susan Sanford Becomes Bride of Houstonian
Of interest here is the marriage of Miss Susan Sanford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Richard Sanford of Eagle Pass, to Joseph Louis Lockett, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L Lockett, Sr., of Houston. The ceremony took place Saturday evening in the Episcopal church of the Redeemer in Eagle Pass, with the Rev. William T. Capers officiating.
Giant calla lilies mixed with fern banked the altar which was illuminated with myriads of tapers in brass and wrought iron candelabra. Mrs. David E. Hume of Eagle Pass played the wedding music at the organ and accompanied David Hume on the violin. A quartet composed of Mrs. George Hollis, Mrs. Harry Mathis, Mrs. A. H. Davies and Mrs. Robert Thompson sang "O Perfect Love."
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a robe de style gown of ivory satin with basque waist and full skirt that fell into a train. The square neckline was edged in ivory lace. A coronet of stephanotis held her ivory illusion veil. She carried a bouquet of white orchids, stephanotis and bouvardia.
Mrs. James E. McAshan of Houston attended her sister as matron of honor and bridesmaids were Misses Jeanette Sanford, Kathryn Sanford, Florence Hollis and Lorena Hume. They wore identical gowns of embassy blue slipper satin fashioned in empire style with square necks and tucked waists. Head veils of ivory were caught with clusters of blue delphinium. They carried calla lilies and delphinium tied with ivory satin bows.
The flower girls, Anne Sanford and Sandra Sanford, nieces of the bride, wore blue taffeta gowns and carried bouquets of delphinium and stephanotis.
Leslie S. Lockett of Corpus Christi attended his brother as best man. Ushers were Henry J. Sanford of Rosita, Coahuilla, Mexico, James E. McAshan, Thomas D. Anderson and Forrest Lee Andrews of Houston.
After a reception at the home of the bride's parents the couple left for a two-weeks trip to Mexico City. Mrs. Lockett wore a coffee brown suit trimmed in gray fox fur. Her corsage was of orchids. The couple will make their home in Houston.
Mrs. Lockett is a graduate of the University of Texas where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi. Mr. Lockett is a graduate of Washington and Lee university and the law school of the University of Texas. (The Austin America-Statesman, Austin, Texas, Tuesday, December 14, 1937, page seven
