Susan Ann Crawford, Galesburg Chapel of Monmouth, Ill. passed away at 9:39 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2013 at the OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, Ill. after a courageous battle with cancer.
Susan was born March 4, 1946 in Gorham, N.H., the daughter of Paul and Doris Mabry Bernier. She married Brian Crawford August 17, 1968 in Galesburg. He survives.
She is also survived by her cherished daughters, Stacey and Kendall of Monmouth, two sisters, Martie (and Lanny) Uden of Lenexa, Kan. and Terry (and Robert) Herschell of Lawrence, Kan., a brother, Peter (and Julie) of Verbena, Ala., Mother-in-law, Evelyn Miller of Decorah, Iowa, brother-in-law, Gary (and Beth) Crawford of Decorah, Iowa and many nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and aunts and uncles.
Susan graduated from Galesburg High School in 1964 and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Monmouth College and a Master's Degree from Illinois State University.
Susan was employed most recently as Director of Special Education for Knox and Warren Counties for 10 years. Prior to that, she worked as the Assistant Director in the Peoria School District for 15 years.
Susan was a loving and patient mother to her two daughters as well as a tireless worker and advocate for them and other special needs children.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, Galesburg. Rev. Glen W. Bocox and Rev David Seitz will officiate. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.
