Physician and obstetrician, professor in Jena.
Doctor to the Weimar Court, in particular Anna Amalia and Carl August of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach as well as of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schiller. In 1787 he edited the first obstetric-gynecological journal, Archiv für Geburtshilfe, Frauenzimmer und Neugeborener Kinder Krankheiten.
