24th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry [ formerly the 14th Volunteers] was organized at Weldon, North Carolina, in July, 1861. Redesignated as the 24th Infantry Regiment on 14 November 1861. Reorganized on 16 May 1862. Company D assigned on 16 May 1862. Many were disabled at Sayler's Creek. It Surrendered at Appromattox Court House, Virginia, on 9 April 1865,1 Assistant-Surgeon and 54 men
Originally the 14th Volunteers (to 14 November 1861), the Regiment was recruited in Cumberland, Franklin, Halifax, Johnston, Onslow, Person, and Robeson counties. They were in the Army of the Kanawha, then removed to Murfreesboro, North Carolina. They then joined the Army of Northern Virginia, fighting in the Seven Days and at 2nd Manassas.
The remainder of the War:
The Regiment was at Fredericksburg , fought at Plymouth and Drewry's Bluff in North Carolina , then on the Petersburg and Appomattox Campaigns.
