Biography

Funeral Service for Lynn Behan, age 68, of Baltic, South Dakota will be held Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Rev. George Sagissor III officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. Inurnment will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, rural Herman, Minnesota at a later date.

Lynn Bradley Behan was born November 17, 1944 in Wheaton MN. He grew up in Norcross and graduated from Herman High School in 1962. He enlisted in the Army in 1964 and was stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska which marked the beginning of Lynn's lifelong passion for the 49th state.

In 1968, he began working as an officer for the Edina Police Department. He married Darlene Zimmerman in 1970 at St John's Lutheran Church in Wheaton and his daughter, Angela, was born in 1972. When he wasn't fishing for muskies in Minnesotan or Canadian lakes, Lynn was scheming and planning his family's permanent move to Alaska.

His dream became a reality in 1978 after serving 10 years on the Edina Police Department. He moved to the island of Kodiak, Alaska and started a job with the Alaska Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Alaska State Troopers. The adventures never ceased. No amount of space could allow for the stories that Lynn had from years of working in law enforcement in Alaska.

Time spent anywhere other than in the outdoors seemed pretty much wasted to Lynn. He thought a good tarp and a Swiss Army knife were all that were needed for most outdoor adventures. He loved Minnesota, but Alaska was his one true passion. Even when he was on an extraordinary hunting or fishing trip, he was already thinking about his next adventures. The man had plans.

Fondness and pride define Lynn's love for his grandchildren. Great joy came from experiencing the world with them. They traveled together from Lake of the Woods to Tokyo, London to Hawaii. Unfortunately time ran short for Lynn. His plans included bringing Emily and Mark on many more worldly adventures. His excitement to share his life with them will be sorely missed.

Lynn passed away on July 17, 2013 after a difficult fight with pancreatic cancer at the Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice House in Waconia MN.

He is survived by his daughter, Angela, son-in-law Brad and grandchildren Emily and Mark of Waconia, MN; brother Jack Behan (Connie) of Herman, MN; sister Dianne Thoraldson of Richfield, MN; sister-in-law Corlys Behan of Norcross, MN and brother in law Vern Tholund of Vista, Ca.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; parents Jack Behan and Bertha Behan Bates; sister Barbara Tholund; brother Jim Behan and nephew Troy Thoraldson.

Urn bearers are Jack Behan, Scott Behan, Bill and RaeAnn Brown, Don Enger, Steve Fuller, Al Hassen, Randy Olson, Roger Olwin and Brad Rud.
