Vernon married Dorothy Mae Miller around 1938. They had two daughters during their marriage; Dorothy Ann and Rose Marie. Vernon and Dorothy divorced on June 28, 1945, in Montrose, Colorado.

Vernon married Isabel Ida Wright Jackson on April 2, 1968 in Reno, Nevada. They were married until Vernon's death in 1974.
