Fountain Green Pioneer Answers Death's Call--Fountain Green, March 28--J.M. Jensen, one of the pioneers of this place, died at his home here March 14, of general debility.
Funeral services were held in the meetinghouse Sunday, March 17, music being furnished by the ward choir. The speakers were A.M. Barentsen. James Jacobsen and J.L. Nielsen all bearing testimony to the worthy life of the departed.
James (Jens) M. Jensen was born in Denmark March 5, 1838. He joined the Church in his native land, Dec. 16,1860 and in 1861 came to Utah, crossing the plains in an ox train under Capt. Murdock. He located at Pleasant Grove, where he resided three years. He then moved to Richfield, where he took an active part during the Black Hawk war. In 1867, being driven from his home there, he came to Fountain Green, where he has since resided. He served as a ward teacher for 30 years and was ever ready to respond to any call made upon him. He was especially adapted to comforting and blessing the sick and always bore a strong testimony of the gospel. He spent one year as a missionary helping to settle Ephraim, Colorado, and has endured many hardships, moving about, fighting Indians and grasshoppers. He was married in Pleasant Grove, March 12, 1863 to Caroline M. Andersen who died six years ago. To them ere born 10 children, Mrs Caroline Hansen, Niels M., Mrs. Tomina Anderson, Emma Aagard, Katie Anderson of this place and Mrs. Elevia Oldroyd of Glenwood, Sevier county, Christina and Lewis, deceased.
