Grover Ernest Criss

Grover Ernest Criss entered life on May 15, 1922 to his parents, Steve and Noma Criss. During World War II, Grover proudly served our great nation in the Signal Corps of the United States Army. After the war, Grover began working for Pioneer Flintkote. It was during this time that Grover met the love of his life, Mary Beth Vandiver. The two of them decided to start the year out right by getting married on Jan. 1, 1949 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

After 35 years at Pioneer Flintkote, in 1979 Grover decided to retire. Shortly after that, in 1982, Grover and Mary moved to the Kern River Valley area and decided to settle down in Lake Isabella. The two of them traveled together to many campouts with the Good Sam Kern Valley Rovers.

Grover was a devoted member of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Lake Isabella since 1997, and he adored his church family. He was also a proud life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

After battling with an illness for some time, late in the morning of Oct. 20, 2003, Grover took a turn for the worse and succumbed. Grover Ernest Criss passed away and went home to be with the Lord.

Visitation for Grover was held in the Sequoia Slumber Room at Sierra Mortuary in Lake Isabella on Oct. 23, 2003, with funeral services the following day on Oct. 24, at the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Lake Isabella, with a graveside committal service immediately following at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights.

The family would like to give special thanks to Sally from Optimal Hospice for her sincere and loving care.

Grover Ernest Criss is preceded in passing by his brothers Raymond Lee, Lee Criss, Roy Criss and William Criss, and his sisters Minnie Hays, Sarah Harderson and Mary Criss. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Mary Beth Criss; his brother, Johnny Criss; and his sisters, Rosie Cummins and Veeler Mooney. Also surviving Grover are many nieces and nephews. We love you and we will miss you.

Services were arranged by Sierra Mortuary and Funeral Home.
