Gertrude Elizabeth Monaco, 96, of Leonardtown, MD died on Sunday, March 9, 2003 at the St. Mary?s Nursing Center, Leonardtown, MD.

She was born on July 8, 1906 in Culpeper, VA, the daughter of the late Walter Raleigh and Marian O?Farrell Cropp Judd.

Moving from Culpeper VA, to St. Mary?s County in 1944, she was an active charter member in the Lexington Park Baptist Church and also a charter member of the Grand Chapter of Maryland Order of the Eastern Star, Julia Hallo Chapter, No 107 Hollywood, MD. On May 31, 1999 she received her 50-year certificate and pin. Mrs. Monaco was employed at the US Navy Exchange at the Patuxent Naval Air Station as an Optician Manager. She attended the University of Maryland to obtain her Maryland Optometrist Certificate.

She is survived by her daughter Flossye Mae Birch of St. Mary?s City, MD, two sisters, Edith M. Taylor of Culpepper, VA and Jean A. Dixon, of Brightwood, VA, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. In addition to her parents, her husband Carl E. Yates preceded her in death in 1975, a son Earl Richard Compton, a sister, Olive R. Taylor, and a brother, John David Judd also preceded her in death.

Friends may call on Wednesday, March 12, 2003 from 5:00 until 8:00 pm at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. 22955 Hollywood, Road, Leonardtown, MD. Prayers will be recited at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2003 at 11:00 am the Lexington Park Baptist Church 46855 South Shangri-la Drive, Lexington Park, MD the Reverend Mark Garrett will officiate. Interment will follow at the Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, Md.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Monaco will be Patrick Conrad, Joseph Graham, Bradley Cullison, Kevin Fearns, Frank Fearns and C.J. Birch, honorary pallbearers will be, Ron Wimmer, Ken Drake, John Moran, Bill Foyle, Ron Grimes and Randy Morris.
