Bertha and Paul were the parents of 5 children: Edna Paul, Vera Nell, John Will, Norma Jean, and Jewel Page.
The word I have heard most often to describe Bertha, who is my great-grandmother, is "humble." I knew her as "Big Mama," a name coined by her first grandchild, Carolyn, when she became a grandmother at the young age of 42. Even though she died when I was 7 years old, I can still remember the excitement when I would get to go to her house. She was an excellent cook, and I can still remember her goulash to this day (I am so glad she taught my mother to cook - the gift that keeps on giving!) She was also a very good seamstress, and I still cherish the "Dutch Girl" quilt she made for me.
