Alfreda J. (Miggins) Gomes, 96, of New Bedford, died on Tuesday December 27, 2011 in New London, CT surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Antone Gomes and daughter of the late Pearl (Wright) Miggins and George Miggins.
She was a life long resident of New Bedford and attended area public schools. She was a member of the International Church of the Nazarene. She was a past Sunday School Teacher and Director of Children's Ministries. She worked at St. Luke's Hospital for many years until her retirement and was a member of the Retiree's Club. She loved her grandchildren very much, they were a very important part of her life.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Terrence A. Gomes and his wife Dianne, of Raynham; a daughter Antoinette "Toni" Simonds and her husband Luther L., of New London, CT; six grandchildren, Dr. Michelle Vinagre, Raegen L. Garcia, Terianne M. Erickson, Carrie J. Simonds, Luther L. Simonds Jr., and Elward Williams Jr.; many great-grandchildren; and her nephew, Pastor Wayne Miggins.
She was predeceased by her grandson, Thomas E. Williams, her sisters, Loretta Lee and Deborah Miggins, and her brother, George Miggins.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday December 30, 2011 at 10AM at the International Church of Nazarene, 284 Pleasant St., New Bedford. Interment will follow at Acushnet Cemetery.
