Worked in a coal mine until the age of 17. He was a musician and played in a band. He met his wife Sarah Pauley at a church peach festival. They were introduced by a girlfriend of Sarah's who was dating him at the time. Sarah would relate this story and always added with a smile," you know she wouldn't talk to me after that." After they married, George worked at the Reading Iron Co. until it closed in the 1920's. After that, he worked at odd jobs until his death. He & Sally were both from the country( Sarah from Shamrock, George from Maxatawny). When they moved to Reading, they were strict with their children in regards to being outside the house. They were avid church goers attending every Wednesday & Sunday. The minister usually came to dinner Wednesday evening.
