Mrs. Urania Battell Humphrey, the widow of Hon. James Humphrey, for a number of years a member of congress from one of the Brooklyn districts, died at New York last Saturday of pneumonia after a brief illness. Mrs. Humphrey was about 74 years of age. she was a member of the well-known Battell family of Norfolk, a sister of Robbins Battell, of the late Mrs. Professor Learned of New Haven and Joseph Battell, after whom the Yale Battle Chapel is named, the late James Humphrey, Jr., a former editor of the Litchfield Enquirer, was her son, and a daughter, now deceased, was the first wife of Clarence Deming of the New Haven Morning News. For many years Mrs. Humphrey has been an invalid, passing her summers at Norfolk and her winters in New York. One of the most recent expressions of her generosity has been a gift of $10,000 for a Congregational chapel now building at Norfolk.

Urania was the daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Robbins) Battell, who were married by Rev. A. R. Robbins in Norfolk, Litchfield, CT on Jul 24, 1805.

Urania married James Humphrey, of Amherst, Mass. on October 11, 1836, by Francis L. Robbins.
