Mr. John P. Bragg, a member of the firm of Smith & Bragg, merchant at Pembroke, died at an early hour Tuesday morning of blood poisoning.
He had been ill for several weeks and about two weeks ago one of his legs was amputated, in the hope that his life might be saved. He stood the operation well and showed some improvement thereafter, but on Sunday he became worse and continued to sink until relieved by death.
Mr. Bragg was a native of Virginia, having been born in Mecklenburg county in 1848, and served in the Confederate army during the Civil war. He moved to Kentucky three years after the close of the war and settled at Pembroke. He had been engaged in the mercantile business in that place for about 30 years and accumulated considerable property.
He was most excellent citizen and had a wide circle of friends.
Mr. Bragg was a member of the Baptist church. Funeral services were held at his late residence Wednesday morning, conducted by Rev. A. R. Bond and the interment took place in Pembroke cemetery.
