As well as the proprietor of a florist business in Charleston, Illinois, Etta Jane Nott was the Organizing Regent for the Sally Lincoln Chapter of the D. A. R., Charleston, Illinois, which was organized on the 12th March 1921. She served as Regent from 1921-1923. She also had a career as a Township Supervisor in Coles County – one of the first women to be elected.

“Charleston is a city of 7,000 inhabitants just east of Mattoon. It was in the direct path of the cyclone that hit the larger city and suffered as badly. Miss Etta J. Nott, proprietor of the Charleston Greenhouse, is the only florist in the town itself. She had about 5,000 feet of glass and the establishment was practically destroyed by the wind. No hail fell. The Review's other subscribers at Charleston are located on rural routes. Hardy F. Hill has 5,000 feet of glass on Route No. 7. C. E. Eaton, whose speciality is dahlias, has no greenhouses."

CHARLESTON, Ill. Miss Etta Jane Nott. 89, was found dead at her home here about 8:30 a. m. today by Mr. and Mrs. Claude Rogers, who live at the same address. She bad been ill a week. Coroner H. V. Clark said she apparently died about 2 a m. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. "
