Gayle Dawn Brown was born Dec. 10, 1921, in Grand Forks, N.D., to Frank and Lillian Mullis. She passed away Feb. 6, 2013.
She graduated from the University of North Dakota. While attending graduate school in Denver, she met Floyd Leslie Brown. They were married on Sept. 14, 1944, in Washington, D.C. They started married life in Verona, N.J. Three children, Pam, Cindy and Richard, followed. They moved around a bit from Verona to Elmhurst, Ill., Lombard, Ill., Cardiff, Calif., Villa Park, Ill., and finally Prescott, Ariz.
Gayle retired from the Glen Ellen school system where she taught for many years. She started as a sixth-grade teacher. Later, she obtained a master's degree at the University of Northern Illinois and became a special reading teacher.
Gayle loved to read, loved to play the piano and was a proud member of the AAUW for many years.
Gayle and Floyd loved to dance and travel. They did not go everywhere and see everything, but they tried. Antarctica is the only continent they did not get to.
A memorial celebration will take place 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Prescott Unitarian Fellowship, 945 Rancho Vista Drive, Prescott, where Gayle was a member.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth; her children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
