Charles "Chuck" St. Germain, 75, of Watseka, passed away Monday (Sept. 20, 2010) at the Gilman Healthcare Center.

Mr. St. Germain started working as a carpenter with his father at the age of 14 and continued his skills for more than 60 years, including building the altar furniture for Faith Lutheran Church in Watseka and baby cradles for his grandchildren. He was born Saturday, June 29, 1935, in Watseka, the son of Arthur W. and Marguerite E. Gruber St. Germain. From 1957 to 1963, he served in the U.S. National Guard. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Watseka and was a past church councilman. Mr. St. Germain was very active helping his friend, Bob Mohler, with Boy Scout Troop 188 after having his own Webelos Troop. He enjoyed fishing, camping and canoeing.

Surviving are his wife, the former Marylyn Scherf, of Watseka, whom he married Aug. 26, 1956, at St. John's Church in Schwer; two daughters, Melissa Campbell and Richard Espe, of Mattoon, and Darla and David Jepson, of Kankakee; six grandchildren, Samantha, Hollie, Camelia, Darci, Kelly and Haley; three great-grandchildren, Chloe, Lucas, and Madeline; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one son, Darrin St. Germain.

Burial, with military graveside rites accorded by the Watseka American Legion Post 23 and Iroquois County VFW Post 7450, will follow in Iroquois Memorial Park in Watseka. Memorials in Mr. St. Germain's name may be made to Faith Lutheran Church in Watseka, to the Alzheimer's Association or to the donor's choice.
