Dorothy Stroud Grimsley Ellis died in a local hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. Ellis was born the daughter of Paul and Virgie Henson Stroud. She moved to Chester, S.C., at an early age. Mrs. Ellis graduated as Valedictorian from Chester High School. She attended Coker College for two years and graduated from Winthrop College cum laude with a BS in Music. Mrs. Ellis was Supervisor of Public School Music in Florence for two years before she married Charles Kenneth Grimsley, Judge Probate and Family Court, on October 6, 1939, (her mother and father's 30th wedding anniversary). After the death of Judge Grimsley in 1969, she married Charles Meyer Ellis Jr., in 1974. Mrs. Ellis was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church, a charter member of the Terpsichorean Dance Club, past member of the Florence Country Club, current member of the Country Club of South Carolina, past president of the Musical Arts Club, past president of Aurora Literary Club, past president of Wildwood Garden Club, past president of Florence Judges' Club, and past president of the National Accredited Master Judge of Flower Shows. Mrs. Ellis directed the junior choirs at Immanuel Baptist Church and directed the junior and senior choirs at Calvary Baptist Church. She played the organ and piano for many services.
