Captain Christopher J. Kenny of Miami joined the Army seven years after graduation from The Citadel. He had served in northern Iraq for eight months the previous year and was deployed again in February. Kenny's parents, James and Jackie Kenny of Merritt Island, Florida, said their son was devoted to the Army. He was well liked by his peers at the Citadel where he was a Summerall Guard during his senior year. Christopher was so proud to be an American soldier and to be a Citadel graduate. He had a great philosophy which he took from the last line of Alfred Tennyson's poem 'Ulysses.' It reads, 'To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.'" At The Citadel, he was a member of Lima Company at the college where he graduated with a history degree. Although Christopher drowned, family members think he must have been knocked unconscious because, he was an excellent water polo player and also a scuba diver. In addition to his wife, Mitzy and his parents, Kenny is survived by two brothers, Brian Kenny and Gavin Kenny. The couple was stationed in North Carolina before Kenny was deployed to Germany. They had no children, but were "really looking forward to starting a family. They had considered moving to Ridgeley after retirement. He was 32.
