Carl graduated from the University of Washington in 1928 with a degree in electrical engineering. He moved to Milwaukee, met and married Maxine and raised a family. After 45 years, he retired as Projects Manager for Allis Chalmers. Carl was active in the Boy Scouts of America since 1945, receiving the Silver Beaver Award, the Silver Antelope Award, and the Lutheran Lamb Award. Carl was a leader in his Churches, Hales Corners Lutheran and Atonement in Muskego, as well as serving as President of Lutheran Men of America, Milwaukee Association. He was a member of the American Legion and a retired Major in the US Army Reserve. Carl was also an accomplished musician, photogragher, and horticulturalist. During his retirement, he traveled throughout the United States and internationally, collecting stones for the lapidary class he taught at Wesley Park for 20 years, and gave travelogues and lectures on geology to scout units and schools.
