Mrs. Ruby Lawson Rorrer, age 76 of Stuart, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born in Patrick County on August 5, 1936 to the late Marion Lee and Audrey Rakes Lawson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rorrer was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Clay Rorrer; and two sisters, Stella Waters and Rosa Bowman. She was a member of Conner's View Primitive Baptist Church and had retired from C.M.I.
Mrs. Rorrer is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Lynn and Danny Pendleton of Critz; one son, Jimmy Rorrer, and special friend, Courtney Daniels, of Claudville; one grandson, Brian Pendleton; one brother, Marion Nash Lawson of Willis; and one sister, Edith Chandler of Danville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Conner's View Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Edward Bowman and Elder Donnie Conner officiating. Burial will follow in the New Dan River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:00 noon until the time of service at the church, and at other times at the home of her daughter, Sherry Pendleton of Critz, or at the home of her son, Jimmy Rorrer of Claudville. If desired, memorials may be made to Smith River Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 122, Woolwine, Virginia 24185, or to the New Dan River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Melvin Cruise, 402 Devonshire Drive, Ridgeway, Virginia 24148.
