Mary Ann Primm married William Flemon Cowan on December 5, 1839 in Limestone County, Alabama. The "Handbook of Texas Online" indicates William and Mary Ann were among the earliest settlers of Katemcy, Mason County, Texas. William served the small community as a doctor and Mary Ann, as a midwife. Their sons, John, Elias and Alfred Cowan, built a sawmill, gristmill and a cotton gin on nearby Katemcy Creek. Alfred opened the first store in that community, and in 1884 became the first postmaster.

Mary Ann helped raise three of William's sons by an earlier marriage: Joseph H., William Flemon. Jr., and James Moses Cowan. Do you know the name of William's first wife? Please contact me.

Mary Ann and William's children were: Martha Jane (m. Thomas Preston Edgin Agent); Mary Elizabeth (m. William Welcome Wilhelm); John Abraham (m. Susan Emmaline Haile); Louisa T.; Emily C. (m. Adcock); Sarah Arkansas (m. George W. Allison); Elias Harrison Cowan; Josephine Paralee (m.James Gibson Smith); Maranda; and Alfred Riley (m. Martha Tennessee Tabor).
