Illinois Civil War "Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Illinois, Vol V, 1861-6," printed in 1867 states he died 13 July 1864 from injuries. Son, John Robert Watson, also soldier of 64th Illinois, gives account that his father's injuries occurred from Battle of Resaca in Resaca, Georgia (May 14, 1864)
In the Illinois, U.S., Databases of Illinois Veterans Index, 1775-1995 it reads, "SERGEANT DIED JUL 13, 1864 OF WOUNDS RECD IN ACTION JUN 27, 1864." This is the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain (June 27, 1864)
I would think his son would be the correct source of which battle the injuries occurred.
