Character Actor. He began his career on Broadway in 1930, and continued to perform plays there until the late 1950’s. In the middle 1940’s, he added television and movies to his acting range, working there until the late 1970’s. He married Stella Reynolds (1933-?), who was a writer. They had a daughter and also a son, Jeff Moss, who was a founding writer of the Sesame Street PBS television program. Arnold’s mellifluous voice was frequently used to serve as narrator-soloist with the Boston, Milwaukee and Detroit Symphonies, among others. He received his Ph.D. from New York University in 1973 at age 63. He taught drama for nearly a decade at Brooklyn College. Lung cancer took his life in 1989.
