Mr. Banas passed away at the age of 86, and resided in Troy. He was survived by his wife Helena, three daughters and a son. He will also be very dearly missed by his nine grand-children. He was born in Poland, he was forced to endure a labor camp in Siberia. He served in the Royal British Air Force in England, and eventually came to the United States. He had been an electrical engineer in the automotive industry. He was very active in various Polish American organizations; including the Polish Air Force Veteran's Association, Post 113 of the Polish Army Veteran's Association of Detroit, and the American Polish Cultural Center, based in Troy. He held various postions of leadership, and was even honored by the Vatican for service to the Catholic Church. He was a member of the well known Filarets choral group. He was a kind hearted and wise man, who was very devoted to his family, and will be dearly missed.
