BRADLEY, Alwyn Delores Jefferson, passed from this life Wednesday, July 31, 2013. She was born in Roanoke, Va. to James and Anna Jefferson. She grew up with an older sister and brother who, along with her parents, preceded her in death. She was baptized at First Baptist Church in Roanoke. Alwyn graduated from Lucy Addison High School in Roanoke. At Virginia State College (now University), her love of reading led her to study Library Science. Following graduation in 1951, she worked as an educator and librarian in North Carolina, France, and Virginia, including a stint at her college alma mater. She retired from Westview School, Petersburg, Va., where many colleagues became lifelong friends. She met Willie J. "Bremo" Bradley at Virginia State. He would become the love of her life and they married on August 17, 1952, at her home congregation in Roanoke. They were parents of two daughters, Daryl Bradley Carter and Anna Caroline Bradley, and were married almost 59 years at the time of his death in 2011. Alwyn always was assured of being in the palm of God's hand and that nothing could separate her from the love of God. Her faith allowed her to witness God's Grace even during the most trying times of her recent illness. Her church family at Gillfield Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va., was a special part of her life and she enjoyed participating in Bible Study, the Parish Club, Usher Board, and the Missionary Ministry. Alwyn loved being around people. She was affiliated with Phi Delta Kappa International (education fraternity), Petersburg Retired Teachers Association, Women's Committee of the Petersburg Symphony, Wives of Beaux Twenty, Pass, Megatons, Twigs, and Golden Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., Petersburg Alumnae Chapter. She was particularly proud to assist her dear friend, Viola Clark to begin Delta Adventures in Reading Enrichment Summer Reading Program (DARE), a community outreach to develop reading skills for young students. DARE has been an ongoing program of the Petersburg Alumnae Chapter for the past 33 years. In addition to her social and community activities, her hobbies were reading, needlework, calligraphy, board and card games, and traveling throughout America, Caribbean, and Europe. She loved many and was loved by many.

She is survived by her two daughters, other relatives and friends.
