Funeral services for Charles Osgood Walden, who died Wednesday afternoon in a local convalescent home were to be conducted at 4 p.m. today at the South Broad Methodist Church with the Rev. W. G. Irwin and Dr. Bunyan Stephens officiating. Interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. Born in Walker County, June 14, 1877, son of the late Jesse and Rebecca Griffin Walden, he moved to Floyd County in 1895 where he lived on a farm until 1900.

He attended school at Piedmont Institute in Rockmart, and returned to Floyd County and taught rural schools for three years. He came to Rome in 1904 and his first job was as a grocery clerk for L. A. Helms. On Jan. 1, 1905, he joined the Rome Furnace Co., where he remained for two years. In 1907, he went into the grocery business and operated this business until 1937 at which time he retired due to ill health. In 1938 he accepted an agency with the Progressive Life Insurance Co. and remained with this company until he was elected Treasurer of Floyd County in 1942 to fill the unexpired term of the late Waring Best, retiring as treasurer in 1957.

During his years in Rome he served as a member of the City Board of Education, member of the Rome City Council, and the Tax Equalization Board.

He was a member of the South Broad Methodist Church, the Rome Chamber of Commerce and the Rome Rotary Club. He had served two terms as President of the Chamber of Commerce.

In 1908, he married Mabel Johnson, daughter of the late Judge Henry J. Johnson, Ordinary of Floyd County and was preceded in death by Mrs. Walden Dec. 11, 1937.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Dr. Tom Moss, Jr., Ward Aderholdt, Hix Sims, Johnny Baxter, Joe Adams and Glover Hogg.

Honorary pallbearers are members of the Princes Club of Rome.
