A memorial service for Billie Christine "Chris" Martin, 84, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Temple Baptist Church, with Dr. Eddie Chennault officiating.
Billie Christine Martin passed away March 23, 2011 after a short illness with leukemia. She was born March 10, 1927 in Anadarko, Okla. to Lucille Pack and Marvin Fatheree. She attended North Texas State University, majoring in Spanish and education. Chris received her master's degree in counseling. She was elected to two honor fraternities, Kappa Delta Pi and Sigma Delta Pi. Chris served as crisis counselor and juvenile probation officer for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Moving to Alaska in 1974, she ran for the State House of Representatives as a Democrat in 1982 and 1984, losing by only 800 votes. She served on Governor Bill Sheffield's Board of Alcohol and Drug Commission and the Alaska State Commission on Credentials. She was a registered EMT with the Nikiski Fire Department and served on the Nikiski Fire Board.
Chris married Ronald L. Martin in Nikiski, Alaska on Nov. 19, 1976. She was an active member of Star of the North Chapter 17, Order of Eastern Star and Temple Baptist Church.
Chris Martin is survived by her husband, Ronald L. Martin and in-laws, Doug and Maurice Martin.
