C. Clair Conroy, 91, formerly of Martville, died Friday, Feb. 22, in Florida. A native of Morristown, he resided most of his life in Martville. Mr. Conroy retired from the New York State Barge Canal system after 30 years as a general foreman. He attended Martville United Methodist Church. Mr. Conroy was active in the political arena in Martville and Cayuga County, having served as a councilman, justice, supervisor, and county legislator. He was also appointed as a member of the St. Lawrence Eastern Commission. He served as the last trustee of the school district #13 at North Victory. He was also a member of the Red Creek Central School Board. He was a 60-year Mason and past master of Hannibal Lodge #550; a member of the Syracuse Scottish Rite; was patron and district grand
lecture of O.E.S. as well as a past master of Fair Haven Grange. In his spare time he owned and operated a mink ranch and at one time had several hundred mink. He also raised Christmas trees, selling over 5000 in one year.
His wife, Mary D. Conroy, died in 1999.
Surviving are two sons, David Conroy of Matlacha, Fla., and Bruce Conroy of Altadena, Calif. There are no calling hours or funeral services. Graveside services will take place in the spring at Martville Cemetery in Martville. Foster
