Melvin J. Armon, 82, Answer Summons

Waupaca—Melvin J. Armon, 82, died
at 4:30 Sunday afternoon at his home
on North-st after a brief illness. He
was born in Cayauga-co, N. Y., on Aug.
28, 1845. When he was 10 years old
his parents moved to Wisconsin, sett-
ling in Waupaca-co. He enlisted at
Weyauwega in the 14th Regiment Wis-
consin Volunteer Infantry in February
1864, and was honorably discharged at
Mobile, Ala., in October, 1865.
In October, 1870, he was united in
marriage to Miss Emma Dawes. Four
children were born to this union.
Three daughters: Jessie, (Mrs. J. M.
Michael of Portland, Ore.) Maud (Mrs.
F. F. Axtell of Gresham, Ore.); Ima,
(Mrs. F. S. Brigham of Portland, Ore.),
and one son, Joseph L. Armon of New
Orleans, La.
In May, 1875, he moved his family
to the town of Wood, Wood-co, Wis.,
later known as Pittsville, where he
was a resident for 52 years. His wife
died in March, 1895.
In 1898 he married Miss Minnie
Flagg, who survives with the four
children, one brother and sister, Frank
Armon of Ogdensburg, and Mrs.
Charles Russell of Gordon, Neb., seven
grandchildren and nine greatgrandchil-
dren.
The funeral will be held at Pittsville
at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon from
the Congregational church.
