Charles future goals following High School consisted of two things: Air Force or Navy (career) and go to college in Little Rock, Arkansas. He did just that in 1959 when he enlisted in the Navy and became a radioman on the U.S.S. Gudgeon.
In 1965 he met Leona Solomon and they married on July 25,1967. Leona was a mother of four children, which Charles selflessly took under his wing and considered his own. While in the service he served in Vietnam, not to mention earning numerous awards before retiring in 1981. After retiring from the service, then made a second career in Civil Service before retiring after 26 years.
He enjoyed playing cribbage, poker, bowling. burning CD’s and traveling. In his last years of retirement he could no longer travel so Charles began a garden. This garden grew to over 100 plants before his passing.
Preceded him in death his mother Carrie Z. Thompson and his sister Anna Thompson. He leaves to cherish his memory Leona Thompson, his wife of 44 years. Three daughters, Leona Sabo of Spearfish, South Dakota, Donna Bilicko of Delta, Colorado and Margaret Patton of Spring Valley, CA. One son Clifford Solomon of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Grandchildren Angela, Alicia, Amanda, David, Gregory, Christopher, Ashley, Jay, Terrin, Veronica, Dexter, Andrew, Talicia, Brittney, Lex, Breauna, Zachary, Krista, Joe, Brook, Isis, Cody, and C.J. … Thirty-one great grand children and a host of relatives and friends.
