Fred was a fisherman with his own boats "Nite Owl" and then a larger boat "Destiny". In 1976 he completed a course, in order to drive bus, at Malaspina College in Nanaimo, B.C., he then worked for the Nanaimo City Transit.
He married Irene Louise Marie Paquette in 1969; and later they had two children - Allen and Louise.
