Arlene Gilje, 84, Wyndmere, N.D. died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013 at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo, N.D. Arlene was born on September 2, 1928 to John and Olda (Farup) Ostern in Delamere, ND. She attended school in Wyndmere and graduated from High School in 1946. Arlene went on to attend NDSCS in Wahpeton and got her degree and worked as a secretary for Pioneer Mutual Insurance Co. in Fargo.
Arlene was united in marriage to Kermit Gilje on September 16, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend, ND. They lived on the Gilje family farm where they raised their four sons. Kermit passed away on July 15, 2005 and Arlene continued to live on the farm with Wayne until 2010 when she moved to Edgewood Vista in Fargo.
Arlene is survived by her four sons: Dale, Wayne, Curtis, and Howard Gilje; two sisters, Harriet Odegaard, and Lenore Stoltenow; and one brother, Eskild Ostern. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kermit; two sisters, Audrey Bakken, Donna Lee Ostern in infancy; and one brother, Harris Ostern.
