Jerold Frederick Cavin died Nov. 12, 2004, in Portland.
He was born Nov. 29, 1927, in Baker, a descendant of pre-statehood settlers. In 1942, after securing war effort work, the family moved from Baker to Portland where Fred graduated from Franklin High School in 1945. Because of color blindness, the Navy refused him so Fred joined the Merchant Marine after high school and fulfilled his military service on munitions transports in the Pacific. Fred Married Jane Mary Gorman in 1949. He worked as a heavy equpment mechanic, welder and plant supervisor until his retirement in 1991.
Survived by Jane; daughters, Cathleen, Carole, Colleen and Constance; granddaughters, Lydia and Marie Bello; sons-in-laws; Mark Bello and Steve Adams; siblings, Janette Cavin, Roger Cavin, and Vera Marconi, and by many nieces and nephews.
The family also wishes to acknowledge the crew and patrons of Marsee Baking on N.E. Broadway, and Kaiser Hospice.
There will not be a service. Remains will be scattered by the immediate family near Neahkahnie Mountain on the Oregon Coast. Family and friends will be invited to gather for a memorial tribute in Portland, date not yet determined.
