LaMoyne Sweeney, 90, of Vienna, passed away Aug. 5, 2013, at Heartland of Marietta.

He was born in Shirley, W.Va., Dec. 31, 1922, son of the late Bayard and Clara Underwood Sweeney.

LaMoyne had worked with Acme Fishing Tool for over 30 years, and retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company where he has served as an agent for over 20 years. His faith played an important role in his life; he was a quiet gentleman who always enjoyed helping others. He had been instrumental with keeping the Cedar Grove Church of Christ at Shirley open for many years. He had also been active with the Lynn Street Church of Christ and recently with the North End Church of Christ. He and his wife, Helen, always enjoyed going to the Friday night church sings around the area.

Surviving LaMoyne are his wife, Helen Phillips Sweeney; son, LaVerne Sweeney of Grafton, W.Va.; daughter, Jennifer Parsons of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Darric Sweeney, Bryan Parsons and Lindsey; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Ruth Parsons and Taylor Ingram; step-daughters, Joy Bowen and David and Karen Fisher and Richard; and four step-grandchildren, Michelle, Mindy, Eric and Traci. In addition to his parents, LaMoyne was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Lee Davis Sweeney; brothers, Dewayne Sweeney and Bayard Sweeney, Jr.; and sister, Gwendolyn Coffman.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the North End Church of Christ, with Evangelist Steven Haguewood officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
