Served as a corporal in Co. F, 195th Pennsylvania Infantry, from February 22, 1865, to January 31, 1866. This was a one year unit.

The son of John D. & Jane (Thompson) Thomas, in 1860 he was a laborer living in Danville, Montour County, Pennsylvania. By 1865, he stood 5' 4" tall and had light hair and hazel eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Lancaster February 22, 1865, as a private with Co. F, 195th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company January 31, 1866, at Washington DC. Why he was in Lancaster County has not yet been explained.

After the war, he moved to Allegheny County where he married Rowena Brenneman January 27, 1867, in Pittsburgh.
Together they had Eleven children and only one is a girl :
John Brenneman (b. 12/02/67), Charles Eugene (b. 07/23/70), Thomas (b. @1872), Frank Emerson (b. 06/20/72), Walter Clyde (b. 06/27/77), Harry Anthony (b. 07/01/77), George Merwin (b. 10/08/83), Bessie Willis (b. 04/07/87), Walter Clyde (b. 07/23/89), George H. (b. 10/??/89 [?]), and Howard W. (b. 12/01/90).
