Mary Anne Broad, known as May, was born in Campbell Town on 21 Aug 1842 to William Broad (1800-1880) and Leah Cohen, formerly Solomon (1803-1868) who were married on 25 Apr 1835. May was the second of three daughters. Her older sister Esther Maria was born in 1840 and married Major Lloyd Hood in 1866. She and her sister Louisa were living together in York Street at the time of the Tasmanian Exhibition. May died on 14 Dec 1917 aged 75 at 100 Tamar Street, Launceston and was buried with Louisa at Carr Villa in Section B1 No. 178.
